Family or marital conflict, workplace issues, and athletic performance concerns
My Values as a Therapist
I firmly believe in each person's innate ability to heal and that transformative change is possible at any life stage. Many of our current challenges stem from survival strategies developed in response to early caregiving and societal influences. While these strategies once served us, they may now hinder our growth and fulfillment.
Through my personal therapeutic journey, I've learned to understand and appreciate the critical, anxious, and protective parts within myself. Recognizing the gifts these parts offer has profoundly enhanced my daily life. I guide clients in exploring their internal systems, fostering appreciation for each part's role, and facilitating healing and integration.
My Approach to Helping
My therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, safety, and evidence-based practices aimed at facilitating healing and restoring hope. I value collaboration, working alongside clients to develop personalized plans that honor their unique needs and goals.
I integrate modalities designed to address, understand, and resolve trauma, including:
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Interpersonal Neurobiology
Attachment Theory
My path to this work has been shaped by learning from clients who are survivors of incest, sexual assault, trafficking, interracial violence, and patriarchal oppression. Additionally, collaborating with high-performing individuals across the lifespan has enriched my ability to help clients uncover and utilize their internal resources.
With a background spanning 27 years, my experience includes roles as a behavioral analyst for law enforcement, educator from grade school through university, licensed mediator, organizational development consultant, and National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. The tools I share with clients become integral to their daily lives, fostering a sense of ownership and control that enhances overall enjoyment and moment-to-moment well-being.
Understanding Neurodivergence
If you've been diagnosed with neurodivergence or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and are seeking counseling in Bozeman, Montana, it's crucial to work with a mental health professional trained in neurodivergent-affirming practices.
Neurodivergence refers to natural variations in brain functioning and cognitive processes, encompassing conditions such as:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Characterized by differences in social communication, sensory processing, and repetitive behaviors.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Involving challenges with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
Dyslexia: Affecting reading and language processing, leading to difficulties with decoding words and spelling.
Dyscalculia: Involving challenges with math and number-related concepts.
Dysgraphia: Affecting writing and fine motor skills, leading to difficulties with handwriting and written expression.
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD): Involving atypical responses to sensory stimuli, impacting how one experiences and interacts with the environment.
Emphasizing acceptance and understanding, the neurodiversity paradigm advocates for recognizing these differences as valuable aspects of human diversity, rather than focusing on "fixing" or normalizing individuals.
What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition influencing how individuals think, interact, and perceive the world. The term "spectrum" reflects the wide range of symptoms and severity levels associated with ASD. Individuals with ASD may experience challenges in communication, social interactions, and exhibit repetitive behaviors or interests.
While the exact causes of ASD are not fully understood, a combination of genetic and environmental factors is believed to contribute. Each person's experience with ASD is unique, and early diagnosis coupled with tailored support can significantly aid in developing effective strategies for daily life.

How To Find The Right Therapist For You In Bozeman Montana
It can feel overwhelming when you decide to work with a therapist. Our modern world makes finding a therapist online somewhat easier, but there are so many qualified therapists to choose from. Many people begin their therapy search using a popular website called Psychology Today because there are many search options, which makes the process somewhat more streamlined, but still challenging. You may want a counselor with certain skills or life-experience, or gender, race or religion may also play a role for you. When searching for a counselor or psychologist in Montana, it’s important to find someone who not only has the skills, experience and training to help you with your concerns, but someone with whom you feel comfortable—therapists call this a “good fit.” Finding the right therapist for you is the most important aspect of effective therapy and healing, as healing tends to happen in the context of supportive and corrective relationships. If you have been referred by a friend, colleague or physician, we will consider this as well. If we do not feel like we are a good fit for you, we will always make a referral with other experienced counselors within the community.
After you reach out, you will be sent electronic versions of our intake paperwork, which includes confidentiality, policy and insurance information to be completed prior to your first session. If you will be conducting sessions virtually or online, you will be sent a link prior to your session time. When working virtually, we use a HIPPA-compliant video conferencing platform called SimplePractice, which we think is easy and convenient to use. Early sessions will be an opportunity to get to know you better and to clarify your counseling goals. Typically sessions are weekly as this gives you the opportunity to develop a relationship with your therapist. Sometimes, if you are experiencing a personal or professional crisis, you may need to meet more frequently. Experience tells us that therapy is most effective when it is weekly and consistent. As treatment goals are met, you will have the opportunity to reevaluate your ongoing counseling needs.
